Dojo Way

DOJO ETIQUETTE

 

  • Always bow when entering and exiting the dojo

  • When the instructor asks students to lineup stand shoulder to shoulder with highest ranking student to your right

  • Mokuso is practiced at the beginning and end of each class

  • Dojo Kun is recited at the end of class

  • No jewellery is to be worn in class

  • Respect the place you train in and others you are training with

MOKUSO

 

  • Is to "meditate"

  • It is called directly after seiza - when each student kneels facing shomen

  • It is your time to get ready for class to begin by clearing your mind 

  • Shomen Ni Rei - bow to the front of the class acknowledging all others who have trained before us

  • Sensei Ni Rei - bow to the sensei (instructor)

WHEN YOU ARRIVE

 

  • Please ensure you have enough time to put on your gi (karate uniform) and belt prior to class starting

  • Lockers are provided in the changerooms for day use

  • You must bring your own lock

  • If class has already begun, please kneel at the entrance of the dojo for the instructor to invite you in
